Commission Finished
Filed under: commissions, drawing — admin @ 1:09 pm
Finished a commission from friend of my mother. She had remodeled her kitchen and wanted to fill an oddly shaped bare space where a cabinet had been (wide and narrow).
She requested, “Something that says Live, Laugh, Love”. I thought that was a little too plain for her and one could buy such a thing at just about any store that carries home decor.
She had at least one large bird as a pet years ago, loves children and seems to always be in the midst of helping raise a Little One (I was one of them!), and like a certain style of hand-made wooden angel collectibles.
I tried to combine these aspects of her personality, plus the Live, Laugh, Love idea into something very personal for her.
(pardon the ample glare)
Details:

It has a narrative element to the whole thing, as well.
If I get a photo of it hung in her kitchen, I’ll definitely post it!

Kutchamuch describes the pieces as “Simple jewellery as a part of home that you can bring with, keep them safe and take them home.”

I have been doing the layout for the company wide e-newsletter for the past 6 months or so. I always enjoy copy layout more than just about anything else in terms of typical design projects (is that weird?), but the monthly recipe page in particular always looks relatively BOSS when I see the whole newsletter spread once I’m finished. One of those things that you can tell whomever worked on it really enjoyed doing it.
For a while, I thought I enjoyed the recipes. But I’ve realized I really dig creating instructions for a start-to-finish project.
I’m working on bead workshop instructions for different projects - as of now, they’re still in the pencil/paper phase - but maybe one day, many moons from now, I’ll compile them into a little booklet. They are satisfying for me and I really enjoy the ‘teach a man to fish’ thing and watching someone run with it from there. Ramble ramble ramble!

Her conceptual knitting patterns are totally what I’m all about right now in terms of design. Thumbs up!

Working on a simple web layout for my family’s welding safety gear venture. I’m learning more about welding in a month than I ever thought I’d know in a lifetime!
I’m flipping through several preexisting welding product sites and some related (like VoTech schools and farming suppliers’ sites). It’s tough to really glean much information in terms of design from these sites because they’re either painfully low-tech or offer hundreds of products. I have very few goals with this project, but one of them is AVOID THE INVERTED L and not be cliche with the welding theme - mainly to be more up to date when compared to the apparent market standard, but also to not alienate non-welders.
Gardeners and vets have already expressed interest in some of the protective gear. Good sign! Makes it a little tricky for me, though. I’m writing the copy for all of this, also. This is proving to be the biggest hurdle at the moment.

Painting this Friday?
Filed under: commissions — admin @ 10:48 pm
I hope to paint some commissioned pieces this Friday which have been sitting on the back burner for far FAR too long to make their way to the front…taking a day off of work and everything! Cross your fingers that this is enough time for me to get as much done as I hope!
Will post photos if things turn out as well as I hope them to.

Giving Wizard Graphics a try with my first round of cards. They are supposedly 100% recycled stock and good quality. I will report back!

on the back I plan to stamp my .com, the stamp created by a very nice etsy seller (click here!), who even added my little birdy icon to it for free!
